Clean Eats For Athletes
TOP 10 Eating Tips
1. Counting Calories is sooo 5 years ago...
Counting calories still? Really? When you're eating the right foods your body will tell you when it's hungry or full. Think you could still lose weight only eating 1000 calories of oreos a day? Sure, initially. Then you will get "skinny fat" where you are skinny with lots of loose skin. You are better than that! YOUR BODY NEEDS NUTRIENTS. DO THIS: create a 3 day food journal of everything (yes, everything) you eat and the times in which you eat them. That will show you so much right off the bat. BONUS** input it in to MyFitnessPal for a total macronutrient breakdown. That tell you where you are deficient or in surplus when it comes to proteins, fats and carbs.
2. It's all about the HORMONES!
This is the reason why what you eat is so important. Crappy food sends BAD/WRONG messages, which lead to health problems such as: weight gain, inability to lose weight, indigestion, acne, constant hunger pangs, diabetes, other autoimmune diseases and much much more.
3. You don't need many carbs
We have been programmed to believe "whole grains" are the epitome of healthy eating. Welllll, that is not true. I made that mistake and had whole grains with every meal. Over eating carbs can lead to a lot of problems like: lethargy, fat gain, stomach issues, acne, diabetes and more. However, elite athletes can eat more carbs for performance. If you do have to eat more carbs for a very taxing sport, lower your fat intake. If you exert more than 90+ mins of strenuous activity, then you will need a higher intake of carbs. Other than that, we don't need that many with everyday life!
4. Fat burns fat!
Say whaaaaa?! That's right! When I started to incorporate healthy fats into my diet, I got leaner. That’s right: leeeeaner. Fats are good for us! In fact, did you know that Vitamins A, D, E, and K are fat soluble? Meaning there must be fat ingested in order for your body to absorb them. I will tell you what fats to eat for performance and fat burn;)
5. Cut the wheat
This was a big part of my own personal healthy turn around. Maybe wheat has worked well or seem to have worked well for you. Cut it out for 21 days and see if you feel the difference. No more cereal, pasta, pretzels, bagels, bread, etc. Did a tear just run down your cheek? It’s going to be ok, trust me. We are going to eat tastier food and, I promise, you’ll never look back.
6. Cut down on the dairy
Do you have digestive issues? Acne? Are you overweight? Then cut out the diary (and the wheat)! The quality of diary has gone way down! For example, store bought milk contains puss and blood from the cow. Does a body good huh? No, thanks. The only exceptions: Ghee, Greek Yogurt and raw/organic cheese (if and only if you didn’t answer yes to any of the above 3 questions). I'd cut out everything for a while.
7. Eat the dang yolks!
I really don’t know how yolks got such a bad reputation, but they have a lot of nutrients, such as choline. People talk so poorly about cholesterol, but they really don’t know much about it.
8. Avoid GM-nos
You've heard of GMOs right? They are EVERYWHERE and everyone deserves to know what they're eating. GMOs stand for Genetically Modified Organisms. Doesn't that even sound disgusting? It's unnatural and unhealthy. Our food is being tampered with! And to think it's not affecting us in a negative way is ridiculous.
9. Listen to your body
Pay attention to what your body is telling you. Are you bloated or irritable? Do you have digestive issues after eating certain things? What makes you feel energized without the crash? Don't eat for weight loss. Eat for health and performance! The weight loss and other performance results will come as long as you're treating your body right! PS. Good nutrition is outcome based. If how you're eatins is GIVING you results then you're doing something right. If it's not, then you need to change something.
10. Feed yourself positivity
When you bash yourself what good does it do? We all do it. Something goes wrong and we are prone to tell everyone how dumb we are. We like to torment ourselves with stressing over things that aren't worth it; like checking the scale every second of the day. Unless you're a wrestler or fighter prepping for a competition, you don't need to be doing that. Tell yourself that you are amazing and are capable of everything. If you mess up, no biggy, stay true to your goals and your belief in yourself.
1. Counting Calories is sooo 5 years ago...
Counting calories still? Really? That is completely unnecessary. When you're eating the right foods your body will tell you when it's hungry or full. Think you could still lose weight only eating 1000 calories of oreos a day? Sure, initially. Then you will get "skinny fat" where you look like Fat Bastard (from Austin Powers) on the Subway diet. He had a neck that looked like a vajj. It's weird. YOUR BODY NEEDS NUTRIENTS. Give it nutrients and you will get results!
2. It's all about the HORMONES!
This is the reason why what you eat is so important. I’m not talking about the hormones that make your dog hump everything in sight, I’m talking about all the messengers that go around telling your body what to do. Crappy food sends BAD/WRONG messages, which lead to health problems such as: weight gain, inability to lose weight, indigestion, acne, constant hunger pangs, diabetes, other autoimmune diseases and much much more.

In fact, did you know that Vitamins A, D, E, and K are fat soluble? Meaning there must be fat ingested in order for your body to absorb them. I will tell you what fats to eat for performance and fat burn;)
